St. George’s – April 18, 2016: With financial assistance from Republic Bank, the Grenada National Museum can now boast of its newly refurbished Amerindian Heritage & European Invasion Social History Galleries, funded by the Bank at a cost of $45,000.00, under its social investment initiative – The Power to Make a Difference.

And what a powerful difference this partnership has made! With the Bank’s assistance, the Museum was able to restore/preserve timeless aspects of Grenada’s rich history and heritage. The newly restored Amerindian Heritage and the European Invasion Galleries offer collections of exhibits depicting our colonial history and the way of life of our people in earlier times.

The enhanced galleries were officially commissioned at a ceremony held Monday, April 18, to coincide with the Museum’s 40th anniversary celebrations. Cutting the ribbon to declare the galleries open, was Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Keith Johnson, who expressed the Bank’s appreciation for the great work of the Museum in the preservation of this priceless collection. He echoed the call for other social partners to come on board with financial support to ensure the security of our “Treasures”. The National Museum is Grenada’s lone history gallery and it is Republic Bank’s hope that this institution can indeed transform into a premier educational resource centre for visitors and residents alike – but more so, our student population.

In attendance were representatives from the Ministries of Culture and Education & Human Resource Development, founding members of the Museum and other social partners and well wishers.

Republic Bank joins in congratulating the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the National Museum, the primary guardian of this heritage, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, having survived many challenges over the years. The Bank commends the Board and Management team for their stewardship and valiant efforts at preserving our history for future generations and wishes them continued success.
