Republic Bank Angel Harps in Gear for Panorama 2015

St. George’s – July 07, 2015: Still in the hype of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra is well on the way in its preparation for “Pantastic Saturday” on August 08, 2015.

For the 33rd consecutive year, Republic Bank has pledged financial backing to the illustrious group, known to be the oldest steel band in Grenada. A hefty donation in the amount of $30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand) was made to the band, to assist with preparations for the upcoming carnival season and panorama championship. Managing Director, Keith Johnson regards the orchestra as: “a legend in the cultural sphere, a champion in the community, providing positive social alternatives for young people.” He applauds the Band for their “dedication to providing excellent opportunities for the development of character and discipline among the youth, through its programmes.”

The Harpers hope to crown their golden anniversary celebration by recapturing the coveted panorama title, which they last won in 2011. The Band will be pulling out “all the notes” to make it happen this year. They have already started the season on a winning streak, capturing the Pan Expressions title earlier in May, this year. For Panorama, the Senior Band will be performing Ajamu's "Tune in Yuh Ruck Kung Tun Tun" arranged by Mr. James Clarkson, while the Juniors will perform another Ajamu/ Clarkson Composition "Carenage on Fire", arranged by Terrence Andre Skeete.

The Angel Harps band house is located on the Carenage, St. George. As one passes along the Port Highway, the sweet sounds of steel, is always almost guaranteed, at twilight, often late into the night. Angel Harps is indeed truly “the Sound of A People’s Pride – Carenage Pride.” We wish the Band every success for the upcoming Carnival celebrations and beyond.
