St. George’s, Grenada; Monday, February 13, 2018: It was an exciting launch for approximately 75 children and young adults, as the annual national Learn-to-Swim week was launched on February 10, 2018 at the Grenada Marine, Corinth, St. David. Lots of young and not so young persons involved in on shore fun events and small scale swimming competition on the surrounding beach.

Republic Bank continues to support this initiative, which is aimed at teaching basic swimming and water safety techniques to persons of all ages. This year’s event will run from April 03-07, at approximately fourteen (14) different venues across Grenada and Carriacou. It is part of a wider programme to “Get Grenada Swimming”, which is being spearheaded by the Grenada Youth Adventurers (GYA).

Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Elizabeth Richards-Daniel, Manager – Finance at Republic Bank, pledged the Bank’s contribution of $10,000.00 towards this programme. She also encouraged the audience to spread the word to friends and colleagues, so that as many persons as possible, can take advantage of the opportunity to “Learn –to- Swim”. It is the Bank’s third year of partnership with the GYA, a not-for-profit organisation which provides inspiring recreational, leadership, service, educational and social activities for Grenada’s youth and families which nurture a sense of community, build character, teach leadership skills and inspire a “service” work ethic. Working with schools and community organizations, GYA helps youth realize their true potential through an emphasis on swimming, outdoor adventure programs and trips.

The past three years have seen successively increasing numbers of participants, and plans are being set in place for another successful project this year. The GYA, through its “Get Grenada Swimming” programme, aims to teach approximately 8,000 persons to swim, over a five year period. Registration is free.
