Gregory Thomson Retires from Republic; Howell Appointed Executive Director

Port of Spain, Trinidad: Monday March 5, 2012: The Chairman of Republic Bank Limited, Ronald F. deC. Harford, has announced the appointment of Derwin M. Howell to the Bank's Board of Directors, replacing Gregory Thomson, Deputy Managing Director, who will retire on March 18. Howell's appointment to the Board takes effect from August 1, 2012 and he will assume the position of Executive Director in December 2012.

Thomson retires after a distinguished career at Republic Bank spanning 19 years, during which time he headed Republic Bank's Trust & Asset Management Division and Planning & Financial Control Division, before being appointed Executive Director in 2002 and later Deputy Managing Director in 2005.

Derwin Howell is the Managing Director of Republic Bank's Barbados subsidiary, Barbados National Bank Inc. (BNB) and has been a member of Republic Bank's Executive Management Team since 1997. Before assuming the role as head of BNB in January 2011, he held the position of General Manager, Commercial & Retail Banking in which he had responsibility for Republic's sales function and its 35 branches in Trinidad and Tobago. He previously served as the General Manager, Information Technology Management and General Manager, Business Transformation.

Howell is an eminently qualified professional whose background encompasses the telecommunications industry as well as financial services. A First Class Honours Graduate in Electrical Engineering from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Howell holds an Executive Masters' degree in Business Administration also from UWI and a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications Systems from the University of Essex. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School.
