ingredients: 1/2cup shorting 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 1/2sup cane syrup or molasses 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon spice 1/2 nutmeg 2 teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 cups flour 2/3cup hot water method: grease and line a shallow tin with waxed paper.sift dry ingredients.warm sugar ,fat and syrup gently ,and add hot water.add beaten eggs.combine liquids with dry ingredients and beat thoroughly. pour thick batter in pans and bake in a slow oven(170c,325for gas3)for about 1 hour.
