St. George’s, Grenada.  March 31, 2011 – Two of Grenada’s primary schools can now boast of safer learning environments thanks to Republic Bank’s social investment programme, the Power to Make a Difference.

Ceremonies to mark the completion of work at the St. Joseph’s R.C. School, Morne Jaloux and the St. Patrick’s Catholic School, were held on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th March 2011, respectively. The St. Joseph’s R.C. School was the recipient of a Retaining Wall and Fence to control soil erosion and secure the premises, while the St. Patrick’s Catholic School received a Staircase with Guardrails and Covering. Both projects cost a total of $50,000.00.

Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Keith Johnson, in addressing the staff and students of each school said: “It is the Bank’s hope that these projects would help create safer, more conducive learning environments for the staff and students”

The staff and students of the schools were, in turn, extremely elated by their newly-enhanced surroundings, which is evidently making a difference in their lives. The students expressed their gratitude by delivering beautiful tributes at the ceremonies. Both principals expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Bank for responding positively to their call for help. Republic Bank remains committed to youth development and promises more projects like these in future.

Republic Bank Continues to Support Educational Development


Mrs. Geeta Charam-Singh, Acting Branch Sales Manger, Republic Bank Limited - UWI Branch, St. Augustine, Trinidad presents cheque to Tamara Prosper on behalf of Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited.

In keeping with Republic Bank’s ongoing commitment to youth and educational development, the Bank has awarded yet another Scholarship to one student pursuing educational advancement at the University of the West Indies - St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad.

Tamara Prosper is the proud recipient of the Bank’s 2011 Scholarship. On March 17th, 2011, she was presented with a cheque for EC$9,505.50 by Geeta Charam-Singh, Acting Branch Sales Manger, Republic Bank Limited - UWI Branch, St. Augustine, Trinidad.  

Mrs. Charam-Singh commended Tamara on her commitment to higher learning and encouraged her to continue to do her best.  Tamara, who is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Management Studies, expressed her gratitude for the award, which will assist with tuition expenses.

Republic Bank is pleased to be associated with the enhancement of educational skills through its sponsorship of students who are doing themselves and their country very proud. The Republic Bank scholarship is available to Grenadian Nationals pursuing studies at the Bachelors level with any of the main campuses of the University of The West Indies.  The scholarship is based on academic record and financial need.

Republic Bank Recognizes Employees for Years of Service and Academic Achievement

St. George’s - Monday March 07, 2011 - Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 held a staff awards ceremony under the theme “Celebrating Commitment and Academic Excellence” to recognize its staff for years of service and academic achievement. The Bank honored staff who gave ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty five and thirty years of unbroken service, as well as members of staff who attained academic success.

In addressing the staff, Managing Director, Keith Johnson congratulated the 145 awardees for contributing over 2,250 years of combined service and expressed appreciation for their loyalty and commitment to the organization. He also commended employees who took on the challenge of work and study to upgrade themselves educationally. A total of 26 staff members attained various academic achievements over the past five years, ranging from Certificate to Masters Degree from the following institutions:-

  • The Institute of Canadian Bankers
  • The Association of Certified Chartered Accountants
  • The University of the West Indies Open Campus
  • The University of Surrey The University of Cambridge
  • Florida International Bankers Association Inc.
  • Comp TIA Security + Certified Professionals

Guest speaker at the ceremony, Reverend Courtney Richards, in a most inspiring message to the staff, outlined eight (8) steps to Excellence, which he defined as: “the act or quality of exceeding or surpassing others, when others are average or ordinary”. These key words (Attitude, Commitment, Tenacity, Grit, Responsibility, Example, Action Steps, Thankfulness), when summarized, challenged the staff to always “ACT GREAT”

The ceremony was punctuated with entertainment by staff and presentation of certificates of recognition and tokens of appreciation to the awardees. Republic Bank takes pride in its staff and remains committed to its most valuable asset – its human resource.

Republic Bank Launches Online Banking

St. George’s, Grenada - February 21, 2011. On Friday February 18, 2011 Republic Bank launched its latest service – RepublicOnline, the Bank’s Internet Banking service, which allows customers 24-hour access to their accounts.

The service is available FREE to all customers with personal accounts, empowering them to bank at their convenience from anywhere, anytime, via the RepublicOnline link on its website: www.republicgrenada.com. Customers can apply online or visit any branch of Republic Bank to sign up for the service.

Through RepublicOnline customers will be able to:

  • View Accounts/Credit Card Balances/Transaction History/account statements
  • Transfer Between EC Dollar Accounts
  • Transfer from Credit Card to EC Dollar Accounts
  • Make Credit Card Payments
  • Reload (top-up) Visa Travel Money Card
  • Pay Grenlec, FlOW, LIME, NAWASA and Digicel Bills
  • Initiate Stop Cheque Request

Speaking to the media, Managing Director, Keith Johnson thanked customers for their patience and loyalty. He added that the Bank looks forward to customers seizing this opportunity, and encouraged them to sign up today and get online with “RepublicOnline” - banking anywhere, anytime”.

The service will be launched to the Bank’s Corporate and Commercial customers in the coming weeks.

Republic Bank Gives $19,440 to Education Through its Bursary Programme

Republic Bank takes very seriously its social responsibility in providing support for the youth through, education, sport and culture. For the fourth consecutive year, Republic Bank has provided Grenadian nationals with opportunities to advance and develop educationally through its Bursary Programme with the University of the West Indies, Open Campus-Grenada.

Esther Isaac-Fletcher, Denisha Mark, Ananira Herry, Hansel Francis, and Delia Richardson recently received tuition bursaries from the Bank totaling $19,440.00 for the 2010/2011 academic year.

Since its launch in 2007, the Republic Bank Bursary Programme has to date contributed $59,240.00 to Grenadians pursuing studies through the University of the West Indies Grenada Open Campus. This Programme enhances the Bank’s UWI Scholarship which was introduced more than ten (10) years ago, and is made available each year to assist one (1) qualified Grenadian pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree full time at any of the UWI campuses in the region.

Republic Bank is pleased to continue supporting the development of young people through education. Eligibility for both Scholarship and Bursary is based on academic ability and need.

Republic Bank gives New Year Babies the Right Start

In brief presentation ceremonies held at Republic House and Grenville branches, Republic Bank congratulated the proud mothers and awarded them with RightStart gift certificates to their two bouncing baby boys born on January 1st 2011. 

The gift certificates entitled the boys to a RightStart savings account.

Republic Bank RightStart Account is specially designed for the young saver from birth to the age of nineteen (19).  RightStart is a flexible savings account which helps to teach children wise spending habits, foster an environment for saving, pays interest monthly, plus offers discounts from various merchants including Doctors and Pharmacies.
