Republic Bank Supports Grenada Olympic Day Run

St. George’s, Grenada – June 20, 2011.  Republic Bank continues to support sporting initiatives in Grenada.  Managing Director, Keith Johnson, last week presented the president of the Grenada Olympic Committee, Mr. Royston La Hee, with a cheque for $4,000.00 in support of the upcoming Olympic Day Run carded for June 26, 2011. 

The Olympic Day Run forms part of the Olympic Movement worldwide week of activities.  As part of its celebrations, the Grenada Olympic Committee has planned a family fun day/run at the Morne Rouge Playing Field from 1.00pm – 6.00pm.  Activities include:  face painting and bouncing castle for children and a run/walk from 3.00pm.

Republic Bank is pleased to be associated with this activity and encourages the general public to support this event, which, apart from promoting health and wellness, serves as a fund-raiser to assist Grenada in its quest to send a team of athletes to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

Republic Bank Angel Harps Ready for Panorama 2011

St. George’s – June 02, 2011. Reigning “Bomb Tune” Champions, Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra, was the recipient of its annual pledge from corporate sponsor, Republic Bank.  A cheque valued at $25,000.00 was presented to members of the band on Thursday, June 02, 2011.

On making the presentation, Managing Director, Mr. Keith Johnson congratulated the band on its enviable achievements over the years and pledged the bank’s continued support to the musical icon. Republic Bank has been the proud sponsor of the band for the past twenty nine (29) years.

Angel Harps, which is the oldest known steel band in Grenada, is known to provide a positive alternative by teaching young people to play the steel pan.   The band has already begun its preparations for Carnival 2011 and is confident about its chances of maintaining its winning legacy.

Republic Bank is committed to keeping the pan culture alive in Grenada and extends best wishes to Angel Harps for a successful carnival season.

Scholarship and Bursary Programme

Applications are invited from suitably qualified students pursuing studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI) to apply for financial assistance under the Bank’s Scholarship and Bursary Programmes.

The Republic Bank scholarship assists students enrolled in full time studies at any of the main campuses of the UWI while the bursary targets students engaged in part time studies at the UWI Open Campus Grenada.

Republic Bank Carriacou Domestic Cricket Tournament Closes


L’Esterre Cricket Club Celebrates Win

St. George’s, Grenada – May 16, 2011.  After 12 weeks of keen competition, the 2011 Carriacou Domestic Cricket Tournament climaxed on Sunday May 15th at the Lauriston Mini Stadium.  Nine-time finalist, L’Esterre, made a formidable 247 runs for 7 seven wickets in their allotted 40 overs.  Brunswick, the other finalist, made a very good showing but fell short of the target by 138 runs, giving L’Esterre its first ever victory in the tournament. 

Scores of fans filled the stands of the mini stadium to witness the highly anticipated grand finale. However, the celebration belonged to L’Esterre, who staged a mini motorcade through the neighboring villages. 

In his closing remarks, Officer in Charge of the Carriacou Branch of Republic Bank, Mr. Roger Patrice congratulated both teams on their outstanding performances throughout the tournament, and in particular, the L’Esterre Cricket Club for its consistency over the years, having being in the finals on nine occasions.  He also reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to the continued development of the community of Carriacou, through Sport and other areas.

Minister for Carriacou & Petit Martinique affairs, Senator George Prime also commended the teams’ exemplary performances and pledged the Government’s continued support of Cricket and Sports in Carriacou & Petit Martinique.

A number of prizes were handed out, including the prestigious challenge trophy.  Other incentives in the forms of cash and cricket gear were also awarded for:   the man of the match, man of the series, top run scorer and most wickets taken throughout the tournament.

Republic Bank Sponsors RightStart Inter-School Triathlon Championship


Republic Bank’s Managing Director Keith Johnson presents cheque to Marc De Caul – Grenada Triathlon Race Committee

St. George’s, Grenada – April 19, 2011.  Republic Bank continues its commitment to youth development, through Sport. The Grenada Triathlon Race Committee will host the 24th annual Grenada International Triathlon, “Tri de Spice” on May 01, 2011.  The one day event, which features swimming, cycling and running, will be held at Port Louis Marina, Lagoon Road, St. George’s. 

This is the third year of Republic Bank’s sponsorship to this event, with special emphasis on the junior competition for the second consecutive year.  The category is now branded: The Republic Bank RightStart Inter-School Championship.

The Bank’s decision to fund the inter-school championship further underscores its commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our nation’s youth.  We extend best wishes to all our athletes.
